DA Files Murder Charge In San Ramon DUI Case
A 28-year-old Pleasanton man was drunk and speeding at more than 150mph seconds before his Tesla struck the rear passenger side of a Ford Bronco traveling west on Crow Canyon Road on Saturday, Nov. 29 – killing a Castro Valley woman inside – investigators say.
Badal Devendra Dholaria was arraigned Thursday on a five-count felony complaint which includes a second-degree murder charge for his role in the catastrophic crash. Police say Dholaria was behind the wheel and traveling at “missile speed,” according to witnesses, when his Tesla impacted the Bronco on its rear passenger side at approximately 3:24pm – killing 41-year-old Alix Mari Sparks of Castro Valley and injuring the Bronco’s driver.
Dholaria is also being charged with two counts of driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage causing injury, and two counts of driving with a .08% blood alcohol content causing injury. The DUI related offenses each come with enhancements alleging great bodily.
Dholaria remains in custody at the Martinez Detention Facility, his bail set at $1.2 million.
Investigators estimate his Tesla was traveling in excess of 120mph at the time of impact.

Seeing the murder vs vehicular manslaughter really surprised me. Not saying it’s inappropriate, I just can’t personally recall the last time I saw a local case charged this way. Even the woman who killed the toddler on 680 while high (her second DUI) didn’t get charged with murder. I hope justice is swift here.
Coincidentally, the killer in that case was the wife of a deputy
It really surprised me too. I’m not saying it’s inappropriate either, but I hope this case isn’t over charged. Overcharging can lead to jury nullification.

The Reddit convention of ending a satirical or sarcastic comment with /s is helpful to the humor-impaired (which can be the reader or the writer or both).
Irony works just as well in tragedy as comedy, I think. A sense of humor is incidental to it at best. Second, what is the value of explaining a comment or joke to someone reading it before they have even had a chance to think about it? Any comic who did that is waiting tables.
If no one understands the comment, everyone still lives.

I have read elsewhere that both drivers were possibly racing, driving at speeds well in excess of 100 MPH. That may have influenced the charging decision.
While we have information that one car was traveling at high speed prior to the crash we have no official word of a “race” between the involved cars or others – at this time.
No the victims were not racing. She nor her husband would never do that. This is so devastating as she was the best manager I ever had. She has a whole community mourning her.
