Roving lensmen capture haunting image of a crash on westbound Highway 24 east of Camino Pablo this mornin and we’re sorry to report that major injuries were incurred. The driver had to be extricated with passersby pitching in to help.
The crash was reported at approximately 8 a.m. when a silver sedan collided with a tree and went into the brush to the right of the freeway, rescuers pushing in to the crash site to assist the driver – who was reportedly unresponsive.
The driver, a man in his 40s, was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Reports that a weapon was found in the car could not be immediately confirmed.

Thanks to all that stopped to help.
Thank you for stopping to help. I appreciate you all!!!
I was a paramedic for 25 years in the Bay Area. This person was probably either drunk or texting.
Well, we weren’t paramedics but would you rule out: 1. medical event, 2. driver distraction (e.g. spilled coffee, bee in driver’s compartment, etc.), 3. evasive action taken after another driver encroaches?
There are some components to this one that piqued our interest/suspicions but we don’t make any definitive conclusions until we have all the facts.
I saw the wreckage and, one CHP car pulled over right around 8:30 am.
I thought it must have happened hours earlier but it was probably just spotted. I thought it did happen during the night there were no other Witnesses. Still can’t figure out how somebody could go off to the right and left a pill like that on the up slope of 24 towards the tunnel.
