A man suspected of robbing the Chase Bank branch at 1390 S. Main Street in Walnut Creek on Thursday was stopped and arrested in the city shortly afterward.

The robbery, reported at approximately 12:30pm, was carried out by a masked white male suspect who passed a note to an employee alluding to the thief’s possession of a weapon and a demand for money.

The thief was given an undisclosed amount of money and left the bank, walking to a nearby parking garage and spotted getting into a green KIA Soul. Police dispatched a description of the suspect and car and an officer stopped the vehicle on Olympic Boulevard a short time later.

Ronald Lane, 54, of Livermore was arrested and the stolen money recovered from inside the vehicle. The suspect was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility for booking with investigators forwarding the case to the District Attorney’s office for review

  1. Walking to a nearby parking garage? You’d think he’d choose a bank with a quicker getaway. Thankfully he was caught.

  2. The bust actually went down on Olympic Blvd, I drove past it yesterday. There were 6 cop cars and a K9 unit. Awesome work WCPD!

  3. Your headline says “Attempted Robbery”. He got money and walked out the door – where was the “attempted” robbery? It was a robbery.
