To the Editor;
Friends suggested we attend the Hands Off! rally in Walnut Creek a Saturday ago and I wanted to report that while I was not paid for attending both my husband and I were glad we went.
We’ve been careful to avoid discussing many of the topics dividing our nation with neighbors we felt were on the opposite side of the political spectrum and while we felt many others would be present we had no idea how many of our fellow citizens felt the way we did.
I’ll just say we have been ashamed by the direction the country seems headed and that we have little faith in the men and women currently in power. So it was with some surprise and great relief that we found THOUSANDS of our fellow citizens in the street and apparently as upset by the way things are going as we were.
We attended in the hope we would meet others interested in a less divisive direction for the country and came away with new hope for a future in which we care for each other and prosper together. While we realize the next few months or years are not going to be easy, we also came away convinced that more and more people are committed to making that happen.
With new hope for the future and for our country,
Kirby Allen
Well, this is a shame. So, you are ok with massive government waste, wars happening all over because our president is too weak, inflation out of control, crime and border problems? Oh, and our deficit frowing by trillions a year? At least someone is trying to do something about it.
You’ve got of a grain of reason in your list of problems, but not enough to justify the lipstick on your pig of “someone doing something about it.”
“Someone” is often an unelected individual.
“Something” is generally unconstitutional/self-dealing/illegal/immoral/uninformed (dealer’s choice).
Someone’s definitely doing something, I’lll grant you that.
No, that’s why I am opposed to Donald Trump turning his presidency into a golf junket. Also thought he was going to end the war in Ukraine in about a day or so – isn’t that what he said? Inflation is a direct result of his actions and apparently, now we are renditioning prisoners to Black Site prisons in other countries – and paying for them to be in prison there. To date I’ve seen no hard evidence of any savings or proof of pre-existing government waste by your heroes at DOGE. It’s evident to me we have a lot of work to do, and that this country is in trouble.
To bad he’s not the one to fix those things…obviously! Paying another country millions of dollars to house thousands people who are “illegal” immigrants is not going to lower our national debt.
He is a convicted 78-year-old con and sexual abuser. He is a multi-bankrupt clown, and if you are paying attention, THE DEFICIT IS GOING UP as it usually does when the Repulsives are in charge. Prices are increasing. Deficits are increasing. Respect among our neighbors is plummeting. China, which is even more messed up, is benefiting from our self-imposed impotence, and yet, you cheer, “Love the limp! America first! Love the limp!”
Look for me to counter-protest in the near future.

You and I probably don’t see eye to eye on politics, but I wish you well in your activism and I hope you weather the interesting times we’re all going through.
There are plenty of people who are troubled by what’s going on in our country. Let’s face it, we have a president who doesn’t believe in democracy or the Constitution. The other day he floated the idea that US citizens will be sent to a foreign prison instead of a US prison if convicted of a crime. Obviously, this is not legal or Constitutional, but he doesn’t seem to care. Just one example of this administration ignoring the law and Constitution to achieve the outcome they want. Any patriotic citizen who believes in the rule of law and the United States Constitution should be outraged by what’s going on.
Actually, quite happy. Protecting the borders, rejecting anti-semitism, making manufacturing and key products in America again and cutting government waste. This is from people that don’t need the money, but care about this country.
I strongly agree with Joe Stevens.
It’s shocking how many “patriots” don’t mind the administration’s slashing and burning of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Cheering for a would-be dictatorship is not a good look. And when they throw due process out the window for others, they’ll be happy to do it to you.
Thank you for attending the rally and sharing. To those who understand the three co-equal branches of our government- Tomorrow there’ll be more of us!
No kings!
It took me 2 days to post that simple sentiment due to technical gremlins, but I will be there tomorrow because we matter.
