Two Danville schools adopted a Secure Campus posture Thursday following reports of a student threatening violence against the Charlotte Wood Middle School and Monte Vista High School campuses.
“Secure Campus,” apparently one security level below a hard lockdown at the schools, barred anyone from entering or leaving the campuses while staff and police searched for the responsible student.
Emergency vehicles at Monte Vista heightened parental concerns but were there, in part, for an “unrelated staff medical emergency,” according to school officials and police.
Danville PD officers responded to the campuses after receiving reports of the threats and secure campus protocol. Police determined the student in question was not on either campus and was eventually located at their home just before 2 p.m., according to police.
The school district notified staff, parents and caregivers that the two schools were on a secure campus protocol, lifted after the student was located and questioned. During a “secure campus” protocol, students and staff remain in classes and behind locked doors, with instruction continuing.
Police said the student allegedly making the threats was contacted and detained prior to class dismissal so a full lockdown – which would indicate a more immediate threat – was not initiated.
Get a few calls on that one e did you?
Oh, one or forty – you know. ;-}
Difference between a lockdown and a secure campus???
Slight but there is one, apparently. We got into it on our Facebook page. Don’t have the strength to get into it again!
Several students who had PE during the “secure campus” said they witnessed someone being arrested outside of the campus gates. Did that have anything to do with the threat? Also, this is the third time a student has threatened to shoot up Charlotte Wood Middle School this school year. Was this student the same student who made either the threat in October or the one a few days ago? Are there any plans by the school, district, or police for serious consequences for making these gun violence threats or is this a pattern of behavior that we are all expected to just deal with?
Thanks for the alert!
Thanks for the information when there was none.

Hear that a lot but thanks!
SRVUSD did a poor job communicating this and the facts, even after the incident was over.
