Letters: The Satire Strikes Back

LettersTypewriter

To The Editor;

I just wanted to take a moment to luxuriate in the delicious irony that came with news that rotund gasbag Alex “I’ll Say Anything for Money” Jones has lost his mechanism of disinformation – Infowars – to the satirical news publication The Onion.

The sweet flush of satisfaction I was beginning to think I’d never feel again was sweetened by news that The Onion’s successful bid for Infowars was backed by the families of children murdered at Sandy Hook – a mass killing Jones had labeled a hoax. The Onion plans to relaunch the Infowars platform in January under the umbrella of its own special brand of parody.

This sweet sweet end to Jones’ non-stop vomiting of lies, regurgitated QAnon conspiracy theories and bogus ED and diet pill ads struck me as fair play during a time when actual headlines compete with anything the staff at The Onion could come up with on even their wildest days.

The father of a Sandy Hook shooting victim called acquisition of the conspiracy platform’s website; social media accounts; Austin, Texas studio; trademarks; and video archive for an undisclosed sales price “the justice we have long awaited and fought for.”

Jones blasted the deal in his usual way and with his usual bluster but the deal appears to have been done. I say good riddance to a scurrilous propagandist who may just now be learning the meaning of FAFO.

Thank you,

Ethan Campbell/San Ramon

    The Onion buying his domaine. Him blowing a gasket and crying. Now that’s what I call comedy.

    Looking forward to The Onion turning Infowars into a parody of itself!
