Deadline Extended For Nominating Papers In Danville Municipal Election

Incumbent Dave Fong opts not to run for re-election to the Danville Town Council

The Town of Danville has extended the candidate nomination period until Wednesday, August 14 for three open positions on the Town Council. Four candidates have filed nominating papers to run for three available seats in the November 5, 2024, General Municipal Election.

Two of the three incumbents have filed to run, while incumbent Councilmember Dave Fong has chosen not to run. Fong currently serves as the Town’s Vice Mayor, and his decision triggers an automatic extension of the filing deadline to 5 p.m., Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

As of the Friday, August 8 at 11 a.m. deadline, the candidates who have filed their papers are (in order they were filed):

Renee Morgan (Incumbent)
Mark Belotz
Newell Arnerich (Incumbent)
Julia Gillette

To be eligible for a seat on the Danville Town Council, a candidate must live within Danville Town limits and be a Danville registered voter. There is no filing fee. However, if candidates choose to prepare a Candidate’s Statement of Qualifications, there is a $789 fee to cover the cost of printing in the voter guide. Candidates must file nomination papers containing signatures of Danville registered voters, as well as a number of required election forms.
