A lethal flurry of fatal crashes continued Thursday as a 54-year-old man died when his car went off a freeway off-ramp and crashed into a tree at the Isabel Avenue exit in Livermore.

The victim, who was apparently not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle and was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the crash was reported at about 2:20 p.m.

The driver’s 2001 Pontiac was traveling westbound on Interstate 580 when the driver apparently lost control, leaving the road, crashing through a fence before finally crashing into a tree.

All it takes is that awful split second. I wish the family well.
