A blip on an Automated License Plate Reader triggered a brief car chase, a slightly longer and more dramatic foot chase, and the eventual arrest of a local man on a burglary warrant Friday.
Town spokesman Geoff Gillette said a prepositioned ALPR device recorded the passage of a stolen car downtown at 8:27 a.m., officers converging on the area and locating the car a minute later in the Chevron station parking lot.
The driver, later identified as Sidney Clifford Hill, 34, of Dublin, allegedly sped off in the car, getting a short distance away before abandoning the car and fleeing on foot, Gillette reported. Hill was spotted climbing up to the roof of an adjacent building and allegedly attempted to flee over the rooftops before he was surrounded and cornered by police in the area of Diablo Road and Hartz Avenue.
Hill was wanted on a warrant for failure to appear on a burglary charge, according to police. He was booked into Martinez Detention Facility for the warrant, as well as charges of possession of a stolen car, possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, resisting arrest, and probation violation.Â
