From the San Ramon Police Department:

During the morning of Sunday, July 7, 2019, members of the San Ramon Police Department responded to several reports of racially insensitive graffiti in the area surrounding Camino Ramon and Crow Canyon Road. The graffiti was spray-painted on several exterior walls of commercial buildings, as well as on an ATM in the area. Members of our agency and employees from local businesses took immediate steps to remove the graffiti in an attempt to limit the publicā€™s exposure. Based on the initial investigation by our officers, it was apparent the graffiti was spray-painted during the early morning hours on Sunday, July 7, 2019.

On Monday, July 8, 2019, members of the San Ramon Police Department received several high-quality images of the involved suspect, which were taken by the video surveillance camera inside the vandalized ATM located at 2190 Camino Ramon. These images were immediately distributed to local law enforcement agencies in an attempt to identify the suspect. After a few days without any successful identification, we posted the photographs on our social media platforms to try and determine who was responsible for these crimes.

The response from the San Ramon Community was overwhelming. After receiving numerous investigative tips, San Ramon Police Detectives positively identified the suspect as Jacob Leigh, an 18-year-old from San Ramon. Detectives served a search warrant at Leighā€™s home during the morning of Thursday, July 11, 2019. Numerous items of evidentiary value associated with the crimes committed were recovered during the search, but Leigh was not at the residence.

During the early afternoon on Thursday, July 11, 2019, Jacob Leigh arranged to turn himself in at the San Ramon Police Department. Detectives placed him under arrest, and he was booked at the Martinez Detention Facility for violations of Penal Code 422.6(b) (Hate crime) and multiple violations of  Penal Code 594 (Vandalism). His bail was set at $40,000.

The members of the San Ramon Police Department would like to thank the San Ramon Community for their assistance in identifying this suspect. Their commitment to justice, inclusion, and equality shined through based on their obvious displeasure associated with crimes of this nature.

  1. “Jacob Leigh arranged to turn himself in” i.e. he has people with money so HE gets due process. CLEARLY he is innocent until proven guilty because of the due proce$$ thing.

  2. Is this related to the racist graffiti found at California HS and Monte Vista HS? Or is this a completely separate hate crime in San Ramon? And to whom do you attribute the quote in your title: ā€œUh Uh, Not In Our Townā€¦ā€? Where did that come from?? And on what basis? How many times does the town get to say they didn’t see that coming?? How many swings and misses before we see a house of worship or a school set on fire or a shooting. You can’t pretend we are immune to the violence happening at schools and houses of worship in our country as this hate festers EVERYWHERE.
Is this violence the essential nature of humanity or are we being mesmerized and led by the worst of us.

  3. Just make him stop. I’m so sick of this type of behavior. It’s like the cork has been taken off the racist idiot bottle.

  4. It’s time to stand up to thugs punks and bullies. It was good to see the town take down the hate messages. It would be good to know if this person had any ties to the incidents at Cal High earlier in the year.

  5. Hold him accountable. If this is sending you into “orbit” please have your blood pressure checked. With the upcoming heat, this could be to the detriment of your health.

  6. “racially insensitive graffiti”?? C’mon. Mr. Jacob Leigh is an adult. Which version of humanity different from himself does he hate and why? Where does this hate come from? Is it organized? Uniquely delusional? If you think this is isolated, then you are delusional. A news organization would find out what words were written and who was targeted. He was charged with a hate crime. Is that something we should discuss in our quiet voices? Maybe it will go away if we do?

  7. The literal message from the shirt is FU…The image on the left says, and I am paraphrasing: I am angry. I am nobody. I don’t need you. I am better than you. The mirror image on the right says: I am nobody. I hate myself. Where do I sign up? Someone must pay for this.

This is not an isolated incident.
