DESCRIPTION:City of San Ramon to Host Official Opening of Iron Horse Trail 
 Bicycle and Pedestrian Overcrossing at Bollinger Canyon Road on Saturday\,
  July 19\n\nSan Ramon\, CA (June 27) – The City of San Ramon\, in partne
 rship with Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA)\, Contra Costa Cou
 nty (CCC)\, and East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD)\, will host the of
 ficial opening of the Iron Horse Trail Bicycle and Pedestrian Overcrossing
  at Bollinger Canyon Road on Saturday\, July 19.\n\nThe event will begin a
 t 9 a.m. in the City Hall rotunda (7000 Bollinger Canyon Road)\, with rema
 rks from elected officials and partner agencies\, followed by a ribbon cut
 ting at the north entrance to the bridge at 10 a.m. Following the ribbon c
 utting\, the bridge will officially open to the community.\n\nAll portions
  of the event are free\, and the public is encouraged to attend. The event
  will include a group photo opportunity on the bridge\, along with commemo
 rative giveaways to celebrate the official opening.\n\nAbout the Overcross
 ing\n\nIn 2009\, San Ramon approved the San Ramon Valley Bicycle Pedestria
 n Corridor Concept Plan\, which studied the feasibility of integrating a s
 eries of bicycle/pedestrian overcrossings along the Iron Horse Trail at ma
 jor arterial crossings.\n\nCommunity outreach and preliminary design for t
 he Iron Horse Trail Overcrossing at Bollinger Canyon Road was completed in
  2015\, and the conceptual bridge design type was selected.\n\nThe final d
 esign was approved April 23\, 2019\, and the official groundbreaking cerem
 ony was held on May 18\, 2023.\n\nPublic benefits of the Overcrossing at B
 ollinger Canyon Road include:\n\nImproving safety by eliminating conflicts
  between pedestrians/bicycles and vehicles\nImproving vehicular traffic fl
 ow by removing the at-grade crossing\nEliminating unsafe crossing maneuver
 s by pedestrians and bicyclists\nEncouraging pedestrian and bicycle usage 
 along the Iron Horse Trail\nIncreasing trail use for nearby schools by imp
 roving safety at the Bollinger Canyon Road crossing\n\nMore than 82% of fu
 nding for the project came from external sources\, including grants from t
 he Bay Area Air Quality Management District\, MTC’s Transportation for L
 ivable Communities Program and One Bay Area\, and the Tri-Valley Transport
 ation Commission\; as well as Contra Costa Transportation Authority’s Me
 asure J funding.\n\nPartner agencies for the project include Contra Costa 
 Transportation Authority (CCTA)\, Contra Costa County (CCC)\, and East Bay
  Regional Park District (EBRPD).
