Celebrate the Re-Opening of The Museum of the San Ramon Valley July 3 with an exhibit on 100th Anniversary of the Women’s Right to Vote

The museum is happy to announce that it will re-open on July 3. Mask must be worn by all persons entering. The number of visitors will be limited. Since the closure, the museum has been thoroughly cleaned in preparation of opening. Your safety is our primary focus.

To open we will have an exciting and very timely exhibit in the waiting room Women Win the Vote in California and the Country. 2020 is the centennial year for women suffrage in America and this exhibit celebrates that event. The nineteenth (Susan B. Anthony) amendment to the US Constitution was certified on August 26, 1920, despite the challenges suffragists confronted during the flu pandemic and from reluctant politicians.

Here is what you will see in your visit.

Original white dress from 1910 with a VOTES FOR WOMEN sash

A special San Francisco Call newspaper announcing the victory for California women in 1911

Original post cards featuring pro and con Woman Suffrage drawings from the 1900s

Centennial Quilt celebrating California’s suffrage win

    Banners

    — 1908 Suffrage Parade banner in Oakland parade (reproduction and story)

    — Ratification banner with 36 stars representing the 36 states which ratified the 19th amendment

Portraits of local Valley Suffragists Libbie Wood, Mary Ann Jones, Anita Glass, Lillian Close and Nina McPherson Williams
