Bay Area Festivals is presenting the free inaugural Bay Area Kids’ Book Fair on the April 16-17 weekend including the East Bay Edition on Sunday, April 17, in Lafayette.
The Bay Area has a rich history of writers, illustrators, world-renowned educational institutions and innovative technological advances, all of which will be featured at the fair.
There will be storytelling all day hosted by Contra Costa County Library and free arts activities for attendees. The Kids’ Book Fair concludes National Library Week.
Some all-time favorite characters from books and movies will be on hand to meet and greet attendees including The Cat in the Hat, Elephant & Piggie, Olaf from “Frozen” and Curious George (celebrating the 75th anniversary of the classic book about the little monkey). Enjoy a huge “The Boxcar Children” Bay Area Garden Railway display.
The first 250 families each day will get a free goody bag. Attendees are encouraged to bring canned goods to donate to the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano. They will receive a free raffle ticket for each donated can. Admission and parking is free.
The Silicon Valley edition of the Kids’ Book Fair is on Saturday, April 16, in Sunnyvale at Fremont high School. Both Book Fair days are open from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. with free admission and free parking.
Inspired to create this event in the Bay Area by the popular Orange County Children’s Book Festival, which is celebrating its 13th festival this year, Bay Area Festivals has also hosted the Contra Costa Camp & School Fair in Lafayette for the past four years.
