Hyatt in Burlingame
The 10th Taikai International Karate Tournament is being hosted in Burlingame this year by Northern California Karate-do of Walnut Creek, a 501c3 non-profit. The tournament alternates every 2 years between Osaka Japan, home to Shito Ryu karate, and a North American host.
This year’s competition, seminars, and Dan testing will include participants from Japan, the United States, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and Mexico. The granddaughter of the founder of the Shito Ryu style of karate, 3rd Soke, will be our guest of honor and preside over the event.
The activities run from Friday through Sunday. Participation is by invitation only as all competitors are judged as much on adherence to the founder’s traditional style of Shito Ryu karate as on competent execution. All tournament officials are 5th degree black belt or above.
