Recent events have been nothing short of heartbreaking, disturbing, and unfathomably alarming. Since its inception, the United States has been a refuge for those escaping tyranny and persecution. This is an undeniable part of our cultural heritage, enshrined in our Nation’s founding documents to remind us that ALL people are endowed with certain unalienable rights. These values have created one of the most diverse societies in the world, and have made us the powerful and influential country that we are. And right now we are seeing these values come under attack.
We are a few weeks out from the celebration of our Nation’s Independence Day, but the federal actions fail to reflect our shared liberties and freedoms, instead choosing to act out on the worst impulses and prejudiced fears of a minority. The treatment and actions we are witnessing against immigrants in our country and community are troubling.
With the evolving situations in Los Angeles and across the state, I’ve been receiving regular updates from CalOES and our Senate Leadership, and I remain ready to help in any way that I can. I believe that our military should be off-limits from political gamesmanship, that our journalists should be safe from physical harm and interference while reporting, and that our People should ALL be treated with the basic respect and dignity that our nation has guaranteed and valued since its inception. Putting political views and parties aside, we must never forget our humanity and compassion and that as human beings we all have more in common than not.
I still believe in our Democracy and the promise of our country, and I hope that together through peaceful action and a loud, shared voice that we can change the course we are headed on.
I appreciate and support your sentiments, however you and other democrats seem to always be on your collective back foot. Your statement that federal actions are “choosing to act out on the worst impulses and prejudiced fears of a minority” is a perfect example. It’s the prejudiced fears of the MAJORITY that we are struggling against, or weren’t you around for the last election?
As President Obama famously said “Elections have consequences”. The American people were clear on their desire to stop illegal immigration. The vast majority does not support it . . I am very disappointed in Tim Grayson. We voted for him because he presented himself as a middle of the road moderate. But like we have found with almost all democrat representatives now is that the moment they get into office they make a sharp left turn towards radical.
Speaking of Obama, as President he deported more illegal aliens than any other President. Where were the protests when Obama did this? ICE is just doing their job. You either get it or you don’t. And if you don’t, you’re beyond ignorant.
And why post only the thoughts of one elected official?

Mr Grayson, I found the last 4 years to be insufferable. The prior administration actually prioritized illegal immigrants over American citizens. We actually had a group of unknown Democratic Party “ghosts” running the country emulating Edith Wilson. Every year, the United States admits more legal immigrants than all other nations combined. Our schools and health care systems are overwhelmed with immigrants. Mr Grayson, how many are enough? Think about it.
I hear a lot of talk about how schools and healthcare are “overwhelmed” by undocumented immigrants. Do you have factual data to support your claim? I would counter that the reason those public institutions are overwhelmed is because they are underfunded. You think undocumented immigrants don’t contribute to society? Who picked the fruit on your table? Whose children grow up to be the doctors and nurses you rely on? Generation after generation, it’s always the same old claims of immigrants taking jobs, bringing crime, not assimilating. My undocumented grandparents did laundry in the 1930s. My parents, myself and my children have assimilated just fine thank you.
