Concord boasts a rich and passionate connection with jazz, steeped in a history that resonates with every note. It was in Concord that legendary Dave Brubeck, a true jazz icon, was born in Concord. The inaugural Jazz in the Park Festival, held in 1969, drew an impressive crowd of over 17,000. Taking place in what is now Dave Brubeck Park, in Concord, the groundbreaking event was the inspiration of jazz enthusiast and local businessman, Carl Jefferson, with generous support from the City of Concord. The festival laid the foundation for the birth of renowned Concord Jazz Records and the building of the Concord Pavilion.
