An unlicensed contractor who left a trail of unfulfilled work contracts and defrauded senior citizen customers across several East Bay counties was sentenced to 7 years and 8 months in state prison in Contra Costa County Superior Court today.

Adan Contreras Rivas was found guilty of multiple felonies and connected misdemeanors related to unlicensed contracting, fraud, theft, and failing to obtain workers’ comp insurance.

Rivas, who has lived in Concord but who was most recently arrested in Oregon, allegedly worked with family members to conduct an elaborate shell game during which targeted customers were asked for “upfront money” for landscaping jobs which were never undertaken or completed.

  1. Wow that’s a long time- 7 years. Not saying he didn’t deserve it, but violent criminals & robbers get less jail time if any at all.
I’m just curious- and I know some are going to confem me for asking- but is he a citizen of the country?

    • I don’t covfefe you for it, Greg, but are you insinuating that he doesn’t look like a citizen of this country, and what would that look like, a citizen that is? Can you tell by looking at him or based upon his criminal behavior whether he is a citizen or not? I cannot.

You DO know, one doesn’t have to be a citizen to reside here, yes? Or, of any particular ancestry or religion, yes? Our citizens and our criminals come in all shapes and colors.

      • No, I’m not judging by looks. More by names and aliases.. so calm down there David.
I would do the same if his name was Pierre de Marsaille.
