Friends and family of a young woman killed by a suspected DUI driver on N. Main Street in Walnut Creek early Saturday morning are leaving tributes in her memory at the crash site.

Family members identified Maricarmen Leon of Discovery Bay as the young woman killed in the early morning crash, which also left a male companion severely injured. Family members said the pair had been patronizing a local bar when Leon called a cousin for a ride, stepping outside with her friend.

The pair were walking on the east sidewalk of N. Main Street near Pine Street when a pickup truck driven by a 28-year-old Concord woman ran up on the sidewalk and struck them. Leon was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver, Briana Day, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence Causing Injury and Gross Vehicular Manslaughter while Intoxicated. She was being held on $300,000 bail but posted bail overnight and was released.
A GoFundMe account was established in Leon’s name.

  1. 24/680,

Thanks for the follow up on this tragic event, but you should also give us a report on the Apple store robbery, otherwise no one will ever hear about it.

    • Jeff: I have a question. I was at Apple the day before buying something. If a customer punches one of these weasels, are there legal issues they would face? I am not asking about the wisdom of this especially since they had guns, just asking about the law.
