The Benicia Police Department announced Saturday it has arrested a suspect in the killing of merchant Bahadur Singh, shot to death in Benicia’s Rose Market shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers working jointly with other agencies located and arrested Nyzell Marquis Dubusson, 21, in the 3600 block of Broadway in Oakland on Friday night.

Dubusson faces charges of murder, first-degree robbery and a conspiracy to commit a crime.

Police say he was the man who shot and killed Singh after robbing him, at about 10:04 p.m. Tuesday.

The suspect is also wanted for numerous other burglaries and robberies in the region, according to police.

Police Chief Mike Greene called the murder “one of the most heinous crimes that this community has seen in recent years.”

Singh, 60, was a fixture in the community, known for the pride he had in his business and his affection for the people – especially children – who patronized the business over the years.
