Investigators announced the arrest of a Hayward man they allege shot and wounded motorists in separate freeway shootings Sunday.

CHP investigators named Armando Perez, 24, as the man responsible for a shooting on westbound I-580 in Livermore Sunday morning along with another shooting under investigation in San Joaquin County.

Perez was booked into Santa Rita Jail on suspicion of attempted murder and other felonies in connection with the Livermore incident.

Perez was taken into custody in Castro Valley just before noon Sunday after officers found the vehicle believed used in the Livermore shooting minutes earlier.

The case began unfolding at approximately 11:15 a.m. Sunday when a person was critically wounded in a shooting on westbound Interstate 205 near the I-5 interchange in the San Joaquin Valley, the CHP said Monday.

At 11:44 a.m., police responded to I-580 just west of the North Livermore Avenue interchange after a motorist called to report her husband had been shot. That unnamed victim was transported to Eden Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to the CHP.

CHP officers in Castro Valley reportedly located a suspect vehicle on westbound I-580 near Strobridge Avenue, and took the driver into custody at 11:56 a.m. The driver was subsequently identified to be Perez, according to the CHP, although they added that the case remains under investigation and additional charges against Perez are expected.
