Readers signaling word of an apparent police chase on Contra Costa Boulevard stood by as a car pursued by Concord police officers crashed and was finally halted in the 1400 block of the Boulevard Wednesday.

Although details remain cloudy and largely unconfirmed, it appears the driver of a small Honda running north on the boulevard was wanted for an earlier bank robbery in the 1000 block of Detroit Avenue in Concord. Although the suspect allegedly told a bank employee he had a weapon none was actually seen when he took an undetermined amount of money from the branch at about 3 p.m.

Concord officers sighted and tracked the vehicle as it drove west on Monument to Contra Costa Boulevard where police tried to stop it, the driver crashing into other cars before coming to a stop at 1476 Contra Costa – officers moving in to make the arrest.

Police reportedly found cash from the bank inside the suspect’s car but it was not immediately known if a weapon was found. The unidentified suspect was taken into custody at approximately 3:15 p.m.

  1. I was just going to ask about this incident. I got the flash earlier today. At least now we know and the criminal is in custody, for now.

There was the Subway robbery at the Park and Shop too today.

The suspect in this crime sounds similar to the guy who’s been doing a lot of other crimes around here.

I’m sure our local police will nab the criminal soon. We have a great Police Department.

    • Yes it was Tim.

The criminal sort of painted himself into a corner when he smashed into those other cars.

Sorry, couldn’t help myself. I be quiet now.
