One person was killed after their vehicle ran off the side of northbound I680 north of the Concord Avenue West onramp Monday – the vehicle bursting into flames with the driver still inside.

The crash was reported by a passing truck driver at approximately 4:28 a.m., the driver telling police the car had been weaving and swerving prior to running off the highway and into a ditch.

The vehicle, a Toyota Prius, was occupied by the lone operator. Investigators said the car was traveling north when it left the roadway, colliding with a tree. The Toyota sustained major damage as a result of the collision and caught fire, according to the CHP.

The driver was not identified pending notification of relatives.
