Pleasant Hill In-N-Out Is Out – For A While, At Least, Due To COVID Protocols

SHARE

The Pleasant Hill In-N-Out Burger announced today, Tuesday, that it was temporarily closed, apparently for defying county health orders relating to Covid-19, and there’s no word on when they might be reopening.

Contra Costa County Public Health has apparently fined the location at the corner of Contra Costa and Chilpancingo, for failing to check customers’ COVID vaccination status.

The Contra Costa County Office of Environmental Health offered the following for their rationale:

Contra Costa Environmental Health (CCEH) today suspended the commercial food permit of In-N-Out Burger, 570 Contra Costa Blvd. in Pleasant Hill, for creating a public health hazard by repeatedly violating a county health order intended to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

Despite repeated notices of violation and fine, this business continued to permit indoor dining on site without verifying the COVID-19 vaccination status or recent, negative test result of customers.

Restaurants and some other indoor establishments in Contra Costa where the risk of COVID-19 transmission is elevated are required by county health order
to perform this verification for all customers using their indoor spaces who are 12 or older.

In Contra Costa County, the primary goal of health order enforcement is to educate businesses and residents about how to keep themselves and the community safe from COVID-19.

Most businesses do comply with pandemic safety requirements, but the county has an ordinance that includes a progressive citation structure for businesses that repeatedly violate them.

The Pleasant Hill In-N-Out location received four citations in recent weeks and fines totaling $1,750, all for the same health order violation, before today’s action.

CCEH suspended the permit because the business was not in compliance with all applicable state and local health and safety regulations, and so posed an immediate health hazard to the public.

In-N-Out restaurants in Pinole and San Ramon have also received notices of violation for this health order violation, and on Monday the San Ramon location received a $250 notice of fine.

In-N-Out may request an appeals hearing regarding the Pleasant Hill location’s permit suspension and any of the fines incurred. The location must remain closed until the hazard is abated.

  1. Good for them, they are given a mandate to verify vaccination status without being given any practical way of doing it.

    • This will never end. Children have virtually zero risk, we have no long term studies, and we’re going to experiment w them w multiple jabs.

And we don’t follow the science, bc over 1/3rd already have natural immunity.

      • I am fully vaccinated and feel good about it. But I’m beginning to become a bit uneasy over the covid-nazism that seems to be developing. Some people, and groups seem to be advocating punishing over the subject more than they would any criminal. I’m waiting for them to announce that they’ll be burning those people at the stake. It scares me there’s so many people out there that would probably support it. Again, something they never would support doing to a common criminal.

        • I’ve been uneasy for over 6 months. I went from middle of the road to “Danger, Danger, Will Robinson!” Items that influenced me:

          – bogus Lancet article
          – bogus HCQ test
          – burying successful therapeutics- Ivermectin & HCQ & Zinc
          – not informing the public of zero risk benifits of Vitamin D, C, losing weight, and now low-dose Aspirin (Israel)
          – Sweden (no masks or lockdowns) near zero
          – Ireland, Germany, and the UK – heavily vaxxed – spiking infections
          – reports that caxxed people have lower antibody counts than natural immunity
          – large India area beats Covid w Vitamin C, D, Zinc, and Ivermectin

          • No thanks, I’m saying Neeiggghhh to Ivermectin. I hear it makes you want to pull a Budweiser wagon.

    • Health Dept. requirements in the jurisdiction that issues your permit to operate is not something you can pick and choose to comply with. This is applied to all restaurants equally in the same way food handling standards are, In-n-Out is not an exception. This dumb politicized policy position would thus inversely ‘discriminate’ against those who are vaccinated and who have the expectation that this business would be in compliance with the rules like all the others. If you don’t want to comply then close shop and go elsewhere. It is not intrusive, improper or offensive for a health dept. to expect a business to have, and comply with, safety requirements for workers and customers.

      • They should have claimed ‘sanctuary’. That’s a successful way to pick and choose which laws to follow.

  3. I would be terrified to enforce this vaccine mandate. Some of these anti-vaxxers are violent. It’s unfair to expect an hourly worker to do this. The solution, though, is for the County to drop the mandate, not for In-n-Out to ignore the law.

    • Anti-vaxxers violent? Says who?

A friend is a phlebotomist who got the jab, but says if they forced her to get it, she wouldn’t.

She has seen virtually every co-worker get the flu from the booster, so right now she won’t get it.

Her 18-year-old son is worried about the cases of myocardial infarction in young men, so he hasn’t got it. His Mom supports him.

She’s enraged that doctors can’t write exceptions – they’ll get fired. So if a cancer patient or other is compromised, they can’t prohibit the jab – which could endanger their life.

She is equally alarmed that all children will get the same jab – not adjusted by weight.

      All rational points.

      • I’ve seen them behave violently and in a threatening manner and if you can’t admit that they exist then you’re either blind or disingenuous and neither is my problem. You shared your opinion and I shared mine.

      • Federal investigators have joined local officials to investigate the “disturbing spike in harassment, intimidation, and threats of violence” against school administrators trying to conduct school business and carry out guidelines related to masking and vaccine standards. The news and internet is full of these accounts. Anyone who says they aren’t happening is either being disingenuous or deliberately obtuse.

  4. It’s not all torches and pitchforks. I was carded yesterday, again, for an uneventful meal. I saw no fear. I saw serious, thoughtful servers. This mandate is not to divide us; it is to promote public safety. We don’t give a pass to restaurants that serve salmonella. Health regulations prohibit rodents in the dining area. Why surrender to a vocal, misinformed minority? It’s our public safety, our public safety experts.

    • If we followed “science”, people with natural immunity (antibodies) wouldn’t be required to get vaxxed.

Secondly, last I read, the most vaxxed countries – Israel, the UK, Ireland, and Germany – are seeing a huge spike in infections.

Sweden, which built natural immunity and only sheltered the elderly and frail – near zero!

There are studies and doctors now saying the vaccine actually weakens immunity (antibodies), and people with natural immunity have many more antibodies.

And now we’re talking Booster #3 (shot #4), and Moderna says maybe a shot every year? Orwellian.

      • I don’t know who or what feedback loop feeds you this stuff, but it is dangerous nonsense. Not science. Not fact-based. Not true. Nothing to discuss with you.

        • Yes I usually stop reading as soon as I see Science in quotes like it is some sort of bizarre wizardry. If people really believe the conspiracy theories being peddled today and I believe there are people who do – seeing “Science” written that way is usually a fair indication of their leaning. It’s a good way to know it’s time to stop reading what they have to say.

  5. Sweden’s strategy was, more or less, to protect the elderly and infirm while otherwise riding out the storm. The government and health ministry (Folkhälsomyndigheten), which acts independently of gov’t direction, have both admitted abject failure in terms of protecting its elderly. A sad legacy.
