Fentanyl Discovery Prompts HazMat Response At San Ramon PD Thursday

SHARE

We wrote about this a little when it happened Thursday, the search of an in-custody subject at San Ramon PD headquarters prompting a HazMat response after two officers came into contact with suspected fentanyl.

San Ramon Valley Fire’s HazMat unit responded to police headquarters at 9:20 a.m. after officers reported possible exposure to the opioid, allegedly found on a suspect arrested for shoplifting and possession of burglary tools.

Police said a quantity of the narcotic was allegedly found on Brandin Kumro, 30, of San Ramon, who was subsequently arrested for an additional charge of possession of a controlled substance. Kumro was cite-released, police said, with a notice to appear in court at a later date.

The two unnamed officers were cleared and returned to duty.

    • Nasty stuff … that is not absorbed through the skin in any quantity that is remotely close to lethal. Unless this guy aerosolized a bunch of fentanyl in the jail, sending in the hazmat team was performance theater.

        • Fentanyl is found in many types of drugs these days. This drug is highly dangerous and will kill you. You either stop using, you have seizures or you die. I have seen the damage it does to a person and I can tell you the detox off is violent and must be done medically under a doctor’s care in a hospital. I have seen where it has taken 5 Narcan doses to revive a person and still at risk. Also if mixed with a benzodiazepine they may need a reversal drug call Romazican to bring them back. Fentanyl is overpowering and it really effects the brain and no matter how much they want to stop this drug will bring them right back where they started the first chance it gets. The addicted love one described to me the pain that it is like every bone in your body is broken. This drug has been around for a long time but the dealers have just become more creative in making money and creating a habit almost beyond repair. It may be this young man has received a blessing as he will be held accountable and with the help of the professionals in the court system and Drug Court this young man may have a chance.

  1. And guess where almost all of this drug is coming from? Yup, thru that border that the Whitehouse said is “closed” and not a problem.

  2. So, the alleged criminal, who was in closest contact with the illegal substance, has miraculously survived for an eventual court appearance.

Something makes me want to break out into a chorus of Macho Man.

    • We’re total chickens when it comes to these new drugs. We already walk on the other side of the room whenever we see a Tylenol…

“Four young men have been charged with threats of violence after allegedly taking property from a 15-year-old who was looking to buy marijuana from them….”

“Joseph Cefalu, 19; Brandin Kumro, 18; Cameron Talebi, 18; and a 17-year-old juvenile male were charged.”

  4. I don’t think we’ve seen the worst of this. There are whole neighborhoods back east where everyone injects this stuff — it contorts your whole body, everyone on the block looks like they’re in some demented tai chi class. DOZENS of them.
