A three-car collision on San Pablo Dam Road in front of the San Pablo Reservoir left one person dead, another critically injured, and a third with relatively minor injuries Saturday.

The latest fatal crash to occur on local roads was reported at 11:17 a.m. on San Pablo Dam Road at Old San Pablo Dam Road with crews from the Moraga-Orinda Fire Protection District responding. Firefighters appeared to be preparing a landing zone for the arrival of an air ambulance but one has not yet been seen (11:49 a.m.)

Investigators said a white Honda Civic with three people aboard was traveling south when it hit a Toyota Tacoma heading in the opposite direction with one person inside. The driver of the Honda veered to the shoulder in an apparent attempt to pass traffic when they lost control of the car and crossed over into the northbound lane, striking the Toyota.

    • We believe there may have been a car waiting to turn into the reservoir and they went wide to get around it.
