A semi-truck ran into some power lines and trouble near 781 Moraga Road Tuesday, knocking out power to roughly 2500 PG&E customers in Moraga and Lafayette and closing Moraga Road until 7 a.m. Wednesday – an estimate which, of course, has come and gone (9:12 a.m.)
A more specific reopening time has not been provided and neighbors in the area say there are a, quoting now, a “lot of PG&E trucks out here…”
Contact was made – and power lost – at about 8:48 p.m. Tuesday, with dozens of neighbors contacting this site to report the outage. Video of the pulldown and resultant power arc has been posted to the top of our site.
Is that 781 Moraga Rd in Lafayette or in Moraga? I get different results. Windy road vs the Commons.
Believe it’s on the Lafayette end of things…
oooooh, and a lane closure is already scheduled on that road for repair, I believe…
Yes. It’s going to be sporty getting around here for a bit…
winding road, i meant
We got you…

Dang I think I know what happened. There were telecom wires hanging low right around there a few days ago. I figured with the paving project someone would have said something. The strapping on the cables had been knocked off clearly hit by a truck prior to that. 🤦♂️ The actual power lines are up much higher than the telecom cables. But snag the heavy telecom cables with a big truck he probably yanked a power pole over.
Give Local Rez a job in the power detecting department! We think he/she pretty much nailed it…
Hopefully power will be/has been restored prior to 7 am projection. Let there be light!
Um… well… we cautiously called it a guestimate and probably overly optimistic… hoping we catch a break, soon. Getting reports of a fairly widespread Internet outage locally, as well. Whee…
Slow Motion Version of Video – Looks like the arc over was behind me

Much better when the arc is behind you!
For sure 😉
And let’s be glad the poles are strong enough to take a semi truck yanking on them, or it might’ve been game over for me – whew!

Nice! So, Hen, what went through your mind when those cables sagged like a weary ballerina and draped themselves over the car ahead of you and – your? – car?
