Pedestrian Killed While Walking On I680 In Martinez Sunday

At 7:51 p.m. Sunday, officers from the Contra Costa CHP office were notified of a car versus pedestrian collision on I-680 southbound, north of Marina Vista.

Investigators said a man walking in the southbound lanes of the freeway was struck by a Toyota sedan whose driver was not able to stop in time.

Officers located the victim and he was pronounced deceased at the scene. Investigators said the driver and several passengers in the Toyota at the time of the crash were not injured and remained on the scene, cooperating fully with police.

Traffic on I680 was slowed to a standstill as the CHP conducted their investigation. Anyone witnessing the collision or the events leading up to it were asked to contact Contra Costa CHP in Martinez, (925) 646-4980.

  1. What, is the 680 becoming a pedestrian way.
    I think this is the third fatality in a month. Shame for all involved.

  2. Any thoughts on why these seem to be happening more frequently?? People living within easy reach of the freeway??? A quick and easy end for the troubled??
