Firefighters from throughout Lamorinda turned out to battle a fiercely burning fire racing through a two-story home at 3462 Golden Gate Way in Lafayette early Thursday morning.

The firefighting effort was hampered, evidently, by a large number of stored items inside the residence. The home’s lone occupant was able to leave the residence and is safe.

Con Fire spokesman Steve Hill said the fire was reported knocked down at 1:27 a.m. with firefighters finally able to access the interior. Several hours of mop up followed with crews clearing the scene at 4:36 a.m.

In all, seven engines, three trucks, two ambulances, the breathing support unit, three chief officers, an investigator and the PIO, as well as Lafayette PD responded to this fire, Hill said. In all, about 44 firefighters and support personnel responded.

The investigator on scene was able to determine the fire started on the first floor of the two-story structure but was unable to determine the cause of the fire, according to Hill.
