Orinda police officers and a rattled homeowner embarked on a search for a man reportedly found helping himself to some items inside a home in the 200 block of Crestview Drive Tuesday.

Apparently the homeowner encountered the man in her bathroom at approximately 8:50 a.m., reportedly as he was taking clothing and a backpack from the residence.

UPDATE: 9:40 a.m. – Units closing in on subject, who may be changing clothes – currently in army green pants and hat, shirtless. In the area of Orchard Road.

The man reportedly attempted to explain his presence by saying he was on foot in the area and needed a few things.

On Friday, Sept. 17, Sheriff’s spokesman Jimmy Lee identified the alleged intruder as 32-year-old Piercen Hicks, current address unknown. Hicks was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on charges that include burglary, theft, and resisting arrest. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail, Lee said.

  1. ” … he was on foot in the area and needed a few things.” Apparently in California some people feel they can shop anywhere.

    • It’s certainly not a new thing but we have noted the recent movement of a – seemingly, to us at least – new generation of folks on the move through the neighborhoods. Some are on foot and sleep rough, some are camping out in their cars. Most are looking to stay out of the public eye but conflicts have arisen.

    • We’re not aware of any official updates, Alane. We think a car in the area may have been burgled but not aware of any hijacking.
