At the City Council meeting on June 28, 2021, Councilmember Cameron Burks announced that he will resign his position on the Council effective June 29, 2021 due to family reasons.

In his letter of resignation submitted that evening, Burks said in part:

“In recent days, I have come to the difficult decision to step down from my elected position as a member of the Lafayette City Council effective June 29, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. Pacific Time. I have always believed in putting my family first above all else, and this time is no exception…”

Burks has served on the City Council and previously, the Crime Prevention Commission.

Mayor Susan Candell, Vice Mayor Teresa Gerringer and Councilmembers, Carl Anduri and Gina Dawson each expressed their appreciation for Burks, who has served on the Lafayette City Council for the past four and a half years. Mayor Susan Candell said, “We are going to miss you, and your leadership, and everything you have brought to our City.”

The City Council will discuss next steps to fill the seat at an upcoming City Council meeting.

  1. This is the second time that Mr. Burks has a resigned from office, citing family reasons. Family is important but maybe before asking for your vote, he could be sure he can serve the term.

        • That’s not resigning from office and he didn’t ask for the public’s vote to be mayor. Mayor is a rotated duty. He was under no obligation to serve as mayor.

          • It is resigning from office, since he was the mayor and he resigned. He knew when he ran how the mayoral system works in Lafayette. My point is correct.

        • Cam did many amazing things for the City. He gave an enormous amount of his time despite having a full-time job and trying to spend time with his family.
