A girl riding with her mother west on Highway 4 near I-680 was wounded when an apparent bullet grazed her head, California Highway Patrol investigators said Monday.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:45 a.m., according to police, but wasn’t reported until hospital staff at John Muir Hospital treated the victim and notified authorities about an hour later.

The child’s mother told officers she was driving west on Highway 4 when a white sedan pulled alongside her car, its occupants apparently attempting to get her attention, she said.

The woman said she continued on her way until she heard what sounded like several gunshots as the car passed her, bullets hitting her car and daughter – the girl suffering a minor wound to the head.

Police said the victim described the white sedan and said it was occupied by two black male adults with the passenger firing the gun.

Investigators ask that anyone with information regarding the shooting call Contra Costa CHP at (925) 646-4980.

  1. Driving is like bloodsport these days. And we’re the only country where cutting someone off on the freeway can get you shot.

    • True and the ‘planners’ want to introduce and build more ’round-abouts’ Ugh, talk about madness. This is a culture unwilling to respect others.

  2. Was this random or targeted? Road rage or gang related? And why didn’t the mother report this herself? Sure, get her daughter to the hospital. But the hospital shouldn’t be the one reporting to police.

  3. A lot of shootings happen on that highway 4 stretch between Concord and Antioch. I will not drive it. The ghetto rules the road there.

    • It seems that you are living with a LOT of fear. You are more likely to be killed by a drunk driver or struck by lightning than shot driving that stretch of road. Thousands upon thousands of commuters ply that road every single weekday with no fear of being shot.

  4. You’re more likely to be killed by a drunk driver or struck by lightening than dying from Covid but it didn’t stop crybaby caronaphobes from fearing Covid. Hysterical drama kings and queens that needed to turn off the news. Everyone has their own fears. I fear neither. If I did fear one of the two, it would definitely be a bullet.

  5. Covid 19 was the 3rd leading cause of death in the US in 2020 after heart disease and cancer, alternate realities notwithstanding.
