Dublin Unified School District Trustee Catherine Kuo was killed Wednesday after she was struck from behind and pinned between two cars while standing outside Fallon Middle School.

Police report that the accident occurred at approximately 11:45 a.m., as Kuo was standing behind a car outside the school at 3601 Kohnen Way, when she was struck from behind by a second car and pinned, sustaining serious injuries.

Kuo was rushed to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley for treatment but succumbed to her injuries while at the hospital.

A longtime Dublin resident and parent of two children in DUSD schools, the 48-year-old Bay Area native grew up in Saratoga and was employed as a business analyst. Kuo received her psychology degree from UCLA and was elected District Trustee by 76 percent of the vote during a special election in 2019.

Police said the collision is currently under investigation but that alcohol or drugs to not appear to have been a factor.

In a statement released Wednesday night, DUSD Interim Superintendent Daniel Moirao wrote: “I’m struggling with the reality of what has transpired. This is a tragedy beyond words. There is a gaping hole in our hearts. Our schools, students, staff and families are forever indebted to her.”

  1. What a terrible tragedy! I just don’t understand how it happened. Is it one of those cases where the vehicle driver stepped on the gas instead of the brake?
