7:15 pm – 8:45 pm
Diablo Symphony’s next “digital premiere” will be presented via YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVtzj1BMQ54&feature=youtu.be) on Thursday, October 1 at 7:15 pm, followed by a virtual conversation on Zoom with conductor Matilda Hofman and other members of the Diablo Symphony Orchestra! A conversation between Matilda and DSO principal trumpet player and composer Dean Boysen will begin at 7:15, followed by a virtual video performance of Boysen’s new composition “Missing You”. Composed during Covid-19 quarantine and performed virtually by DSO members in their respective homes, the work sends a musical message to friends, family and loved ones that they are missed and in our thoughts during this unparalleled and challenging time. Boysen has written arrangements and original music for brass chamber music ensembles, big bands, concert bands and now for symphony orchestra.
Also featured are the Bach Double Violin Concerto, with violin soloists Sara Usher and Dawn Harms, and Robert Schumann’s 3rd Symphony (“The Rhenish”). Usher, concertmaster of the Diablo Symphony, has been concertmaster for the Vallejo Symphony, the Santa Cruz Symphony and the Tassajara Symphony, as well as Principal Second for the SF Chamber Symphony and Oakland East Bay Symphonies. Harms is a first violinist in the San Francisco Opera Orchestra, associate concertmaster for the New Century Chamber Orchestra and co-concertmaster with the Oakland Symphony. Both works were recorded during live Diablo Symphony concerts held at the Lesher Center for the Arts.
Please also join us via live video conference on Zoom immediately after the concert for conversation and discussion with Matilda Hofman and members of the DSO.
