UPDATE: Service has been restored to some San Francisco lines and most East Bay lines by noon. Check BART for updates, schedules.

BART trains have stopped running and all stations are closed after a widespread computer malfunction Sunday morning.

Terse announcements from BART officials announced the closures and advised potential users to “Seek alternate transportation options.”

The issue, attributed to a systemwide computer malfunction, prevented the transportation system from starting service as scheduled at 8 a.m.

Currently, there was no estimate given for a return to normalized operrations.

Stranded passengers were advised to look for bus transportation from AC Transit, the VTA, Muni and other mass transit agencies, BART said.

  1. Something tells me not too many are relying on BART these days. Taking public transportation during a pandemic is foolish.
