Child Dies After Collision With Delivery Truck In Lafayette Tuesday

A 10-year-old boy died after he collided with a delivery vehicle while riding his bicycle on Merriewood Drive in Lafayette Tuesday.

The victim was identified as Leonardo Cellura of Lafayette.

Investigators said the vehicle involved in the collision with Cellura, who was on a bicycle, was an Amazon delivery truck. The driver is cooperating with Lafayette police and has been interviewed. A blood draw was taken at the time.

Neighbors reported that the child was down after an apparent collision with the van near Burton Valley Elementary at about 12:48 p.m. He was rushed to a local hospital with significant injuries and later declared deceased.
