Danville PD busy this a.m., introducing themselves to Crockett resident Matthew Robert Smith, 37, and taking him into custody on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle, looting during the pandemic, possession of stolen property, and for being a felon in possession of a stun gun. Smith is also being held on a parole violation and will be booked at the County Jail in Martinez. 

Things got underway at 4:50 a.m., with Danville officers responding to the 600 block of El Pintado Road for a vehicle that had just been stolen from the owner’s property. Officers located the vehicle at 5:17 a.m. in the area of El Alamo and Nathan Ln, a short distance from the theft. The suspect drove a short distance with officers following before stopping the stolen vehicle at the end of El Rio Ct and fleeing on foot.

An extensive search was conducted using several officers from Danville PD and Deputies from the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office, a K9, and an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) to attempt to locate the suspect.
