As we first reported via Flash and Facebook Monday evening, California Highway Patrol officers dealt with two separate crashes at the same location on Highway 24 Monday – both apparently caused by DUI driving.

At about 9:06pm, Contra Costa CHP units were advised of a collision involving a sedan into the back of a Safeway Big Rig at Hwy-24 westbound at Acalanes Road. Upon CHP and emergency personnel arrival, a Lexus sedan with four male occupants inside was found to have crashed into the back of the Big Rig at a high rate of speed, causing major damage and major injuries. All three male passengers were transported to the hospital for major non-life-threatening injuries.

The 22-year–old driver of the Lexus, Konstantin Vodyanov from Pinole, also suffered major injuries. He was transported to the hospital, and was suspected of driving under the influence. While at the hospital, Vodyanov was investigated and arrested for FELONY DUI. Due to his injuries, he was admitted to the hospital and will remain there for an unknown amount of time. The driver of the Big Rid fortunately was not injured.

Then, at about 12:54 a.m., while CHP Officers and emergency responders were still on scene for the first DUI collision, a ConFire fire truck with three firefighters inside blocking the lanes of traffic to create a safe scene for the investigators, was rear ended by a Honda sedan that was traveling at a high rate of speed.

Thankfully the firefighters only suffered minor injuries. As we reported, and as the CHP states, the firefighters then selflessly got out of their truck and immediately started rendering aid to the unconscious solo male driver of the Honda that hit them.

Suallah Hatari Lloyd, 30 years old from Oakland, suffered major injuries in the crash, was transported to the hospital, and was also suspected of driving under the influence. While at the hospital, Lloyd was investigated and arrested for DUI. Due to his injuries, he was admitted to the hospital and will remain there for an unknown amount of time.

  1. These DUI drivers should have the book thrown at them for endangering the lives of so many people. Should spend a long time in jail and should never be granted another drivers license.
