From the Town of Danville:

Use of the Town of Danville’s Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system, as well as sharp-eyed witnesses resulted in the arrest of a Salinas resident in connection with the early morning armed robbery of a Danville gas station.

At approximately 5:02 a.m. on January 18, 2020, officers were called to the Shell Station on Camino Ramon on a report of an armed robbery.  Police were able to obtain witness statements and video from the station and determined that the suspect fled in a 2002 Honda Accord.  Using the ALPR system, officers were able to identify the license plate and owner of the vehicle.

Using the information from Danville PD, Sacramento Police located the suspect sleeping in his car and made an arrest.  The suspect is identified as Saul Martinez, 26, of Salinas.  Martinez was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on charges of robbery, criminal threats, and an added enhancement for using a firearm in the commission of the robbery.

Police Chief Allan Shields said he was very pleased with the swift work of police in getting a dangerous criminal off the streets.

“This is another example of the police/community partnership yielding great results,” he said. “Between the excellent witness accounts, and the ALPR system, our officers were able to quickly find the suspect and make an arrest.”
