We’re not sure why this classic bit of TV commercialism came to mind but we’re clearly feeling the effects of these public safety outages as announced by PG&E – the latest of which, scheduled for Wednesday, was called off today.
Now, we’ve been prepositioning generators and rearranging the refrigerators to prevent food loss, etc., and we believe we’re not alone in taking those steps in the face of an impending blackout.
We have to say this “back and forth” approach to ensuring public safety – dare we say “Clap On, Clap Off,” can be wearying at best and guaranteed to ensure future public enmity at worst.
Does anyone care? That remains to be seen. But our frustration levels are cranked up and, as nice as it is to know we’ll be able to grind our coffee beans tomorrow morning, we’re wondering if we will be able to depend on our power providers in light of this approach in future.
Are we off base?
In past years the electric company offered a rate reduction if you agreed to let them turn off your air conditioner whenever they wanted. Now we get an offer we cannot refuse: Rate increases and all electricity (and sometimes gas) turned off whenever they want. Progress!

Husband busy reading all he can on DIY power systems. I think he has lost faith in PG&E.
