An apparent attempt to burglarize a downtown Walnut Creek auto business triggered an energetic police response and culminated with the arrest of at least one suspect Sunday night.

Things kicked off at approximately 9 p.m. when two men reportedly attempted to break into the North State Auto dealership in the 2200 block of N. Main Street, neighbors reported.

The pair was startled by a man who confronted them and apparently gave chase when they ran off, witnesses said. Police were notified and arrived quickly, detaining one man and searching for the second when he fled in the direction of Riviera Avenue.

Cindy Larkin, driving through the area at the time, said she was surprised by the police response.

“They came from everywhere,” she said. “It was crazy.”

Stephanie Chandler, who lives in the 1600 block of Riviera said she found telltale and vivid evidence left behind by one of the suspects.

“A sweatshirt was left in my yard,” Chandler said. “We found a key under my car and there was vomit underneath my car where one was hiding.”

Chandler said police told her they had caught one suspect while the other managed to elude them.

  1. I guess the Walnut Creek Police scared these suspects vomit-less, maybe sh*t-less too. Great work! Iwonder though, if the perpetrators are just another of the thousands out there who are running around on parole /wanted on warrants (but not in jail, where they belong)
