Calls from neighbors reporting smoke and flames showing from the garage of a home at 415 Saddlebrook Lane in Pleasant Hill brought Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters on the run Sunday night.
The home’s occupants were able to make it out of the residence safely and were not hurt, but their garage was heavily damaged by the blaze, according to district spokesman Steve Hill.
Hill said Sunday’s incident was reported shortly before 8:30 p.m. with the district’s Engine 13 arriving from Martinez to find black smoke billowing from the garage of the two-story home.
The arrival of additional firefighters enabled a swift “knock down” of the blaze, Hill said, with the fire reported under control within 10 minutes. Two adults inside the residence at the time of the blaze were able to escape without injury.
Further investigation traced the source of the blaze to an area outside the home and revealed that discarded “smoking materials” were the likely cause of the fire, according to Hill.
