SHARE

Firefighters were called out to a residence in the 100 block of Pinehurst Road in Canyon (south of Moraga) early Tuesday morning, arriving to find an outbuilding burning heavily and setting adjacent vegetation ablaze.

The fire was reported at 12:45 a.m. with neighbors directing firefighters to a home behind the Canyon Post Office. A single-story structure was fully engulfed as firefighters arrived.

A second-alarm was quickly called due to the level of involvement of the blaze and difficulties firefighters had in getting apparatus in to the scene, with some personnel reportedly walking into the scene on foot.

No one was believed to have been injured during the incident. The following information was released later in the afternoon by Moraga-Orinda Fire District PIO Dennis Rein:

MORAGA – Just after 12:45 AM on Tuesday, December 4, Moraga-Orinda Fire units were called to the Community of Canyon for a reported structure fire. The first arriving engine found a fully involved storage building burning off one of the ranch roads. A total of 40 Firefighters from the Moraga-Orinda Fire District and Contra Costa County Fire responded to the scene. The fire burned the storage building and an adjacent trailer and was under control at 1:56 AM.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.  No additional structures were damaged and there were no reported injuries.

Moraga-Orinda Fire District crews will be checking the scene throughout the day to be sure the fire does not reignite.
