Three people were injured, one with life-threatening injuries, after a head-on collision on S. Main Street at Creekside in Walnut Creek early Saturday morning.

Walnut Creek Police Lt. Joe Donleavy said the crash occurred at 12:36 a.m. Saturday, with neighbors telling this site they called police after hearing the sound of a pickup truck impacting with a passenger car.

Donleavy said the driver of the pickup truck, identified as 37-year-old Justin Ross of Walnut Creek, was driving south on South Main when he veered into the northbound lane and collided head-on with a Honda Accord with three people aboard, all in their mid-20s.

All three persons in the Honda were injured, Donleavy said, with one occupant – identified as a young woman passenger by witnesses – sustaining life-threatening injuries. The other passengers, and Ross, were treated for minor injuries, according to police, with Ross arrested and booked on charges of felony DUI after receiving treatment at the hospital.

Ross was on probation for a prior DUI at the time of the crash, according to police.

Area residents are still reeling from the impact of a prior accident on S. Main at Rudgear Road one month ago.

In that crash, a Walnut Creek man and his infant daughter were killed and another person critically injured by a suspected DUI driver who has subsequently been charged with their murder.
