Department of Fish and Wildlife officials released a photo of a slightly groggy but much better off young male cougar darted in Pleasanton Monday night and released in a remote spot in Sunol early Tuesday.

Monday’s sighting triggered an excited response from locals and a, thankfully, measured response from police, sheriff’s deputies and wildlife experts who were able to dart the juvenile male catamount and wait him out.

Wildlife experts transported the apparently healthy animal to a drop-off point far from humans and said he roused himself and wandered off into the brush – where he belongs.
