Area police have been alerted to the possible attempted abduction of a 12-year-old girl near the Walgreens outlet on San Pablo Dam Road in El Sobrante Tuesday morning.

Officers are looking for a black male between 45 and 55 years, bald, tall, and thin, wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses who reportedly offered the child money to get into his car and then allegedly attempted to grab her when she refused.

The suspect is believed to be driving a late model white Prius. The car and driver were reportedly last seen driving toward Orinda on San Pablo Dam Road.

The child was not believed to have been physically injured during the incident.

In a release issued late Tuesday, a sheriff’s spokesman said the incident was reported at about 9:03 a.m. in the 3600 block of San Pablo Dam Road.

At that time, according to the release, the girl was approached while she was waiting for her school bus at a stop in front of the Walgreens store. Police said the girl “became scared” and walked away while a bystander notified authorities.

Suspect Description: Black male, 45-55 years, with a medium build. He was wearing a grey hoodie-style jacket with the word “Gap” across the front and was also wearing grey sweat pants. Police said the man had sunglasses but was not wearing them at the time of the incident, which they characterized as a “suspicious circumstance.”

Anyone with information on the incident or the suspect in this case is asked to call the sheriff at (925) 646-2441.
