School Restroom Proves No Place To Hide After San Ramon Crash; Driver Arrested Saturday

SHARE

The driver of an SUV which crashed into a tree near Windemere Ranch Middle School late Saturday was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and child endangerment after officers found her holed up in a bathroom at the school.

First responders were sent out to East Branch Parkway shortly after 10 p.m. after witnesses reported seeing an SUV hit a tree there. Civilian samaritans and police could not find the driver of the vehicle or any occupants until a person was located on school grounds, locked in a bathroom and reportedly resistant to suggestions to come out and talk to police.

The unnamed driver, believed to be from Danville, held officers at bay with requests to use the restroom until eventually coming out to meet with police – who then placed her under arrest for DUI.

Officers also located a juvenile in the vehicle at the time of the crash, though it was not disclosed where the youth was found, and additionally charged the driver with child endangerment.

He was taken to the hospital for observation and treatment of minor injuries suffered in the crash.

      • Did she know the school and know the rest rooms were open? My first guess is that it was left open for some reason maybe after a school function. Might be a security issue if left unlocked normally.

  1. I couldn’t care less why the restrooms were open or how she got in there. What difference does it make? I do care about the innocent victims on the road and children being raised by alcoholics. Kids deserve a better life, and she’s in custody where she belongs.

    • My kids don’t go there but if they did I think I’d want to know if the campus was unsecured at night and people could walk or run in and hide there. That would interest me. As for people out driving while drunk or worse I think it happens a lot more than we know. Seems to get reported on when something like this happens.

      • I’m one to keep the focus where it belongs, and the focus here is she was driving drunk, and she had a child with her, And she’s in custody. Everything else is irrelevant (to me). If you want to worry about the bathrooms of schools that your children don’t attend – that’s your business. I don’t worry about things like that. It’s just not me…

        • I said it would interest me. And I said it would really interest me if my children went to that school. School security seems to be an issue lately – maybe I’m wrong. The fact that this occurred AFTER she crashed her car with her child aboard makes the thing doubly concerning – to me.

          • You’re feeding into the stereotype that “women worry too much.” I’m not like that, but I wish you well. Have a blessed day…

          • The school’s multipurpose room was being used for a community event. The bathroom is between the entrance and the MPR.

  2. @Danielle It’s pretty apparent we’re different beings, or at least have a different mindset on things. I’m good with that.

  3. I wish my women did more of the worrying.
“It takes a worried man to sing a worried song.” They wrote a song about it.
