BART police officers arrested a 21-year-old Emeryville man at Orinda station Thursday after he was allegedly found to be operating a stolen car.
Javier Maciel was arrested on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle as well as for having a $150,000 arrest warrant.
It was not immediately determined where the car had been stolen. Maciel was taken into custody around 6:30 p.m.
Was he at that encampment out there?
We have heard something to that effect.
Gun?
We’d heard a gun may have been located during the initial stop/arrest and subsequent charges seem to bear that out but we are unsure as to type, where it was located, loaded, etc.
Our local BART stations draw all types of crowds – not all of them good.
Not our station but we see a lot of action at ours all the time.
Don’t they have cameras in the station lots now?
We believe they do though we’re unsure as to coverage and protocols for monitoring, etc.
There is an encampment at Orinda BART station??
I know, I am envisioning a camp full of traffic-challenged executives sitting around a Cabella camp stove, talking stocks over their mochaccinos.
We weren’t, but we are now! We get periodic reports of campers, transients on the hillside above the station but haven’t identified a permanent encampment as yet.
Thanks
Certainly!
I’ve definitely seen people walking down from the hillside across from BART.
