A pair of smoky but ultimately inconsequential blazes broke out along Highway 24 east of the St. Stephens offramp in Orinda Friday – bringing volunteer firefighters and professionals on the run.
Karl Richtenburg snapped a couple of photos as passersby stopped to halt the advance of the fires until MOFD crews could arrive shortly after they were reported at 11:10 a.m.

Hope we have a quieter fire season this summer
A “pair”? That sounds odd. I hope these weren’t intentionally started.
Suggestive (to us totally as laypeople and not firefighters) of a possible start by a car pulled off to the shoulder, moves down the the road a piece, touches off another fire. We do have pictures of similar past occurrences.
