Local schools are gearing up for a planned student walkout in support of Florida’s Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School tomorrow, Wednesday – a march planned to coincide with the moment a teen gunman walked into the school and killed 17.

The ENOUGH National School Walkout is expected to get underway at 10 a.m. and last 17 minutes – a minute for each life taken.

Lamorinda schools expected to participate include, Miramonte High, Campolindo High, and Joaquin Moraga Intermediate School with others also planning to take part.

Students from San Ramon Valley, Dougherty Valley and Monte Vista high schools have also registered for the event.

  1. I understand the support, and why they’re doing this. They’re trying to push lawmakers to pass tougher gun laws. But if they think walk outs or sit ins will make a difference, they’re delusional. Intermediate and high school kids aren’t taxpayers. 17 minutes of exercise…

  2. Apparently they ARE making a difference “Danielle”. They’ve gotten your attention haven’t they?

  3. Eric – I’m not a lawmaker. It doesn’t take much to get my attention on News24/680. I read every thread – sometimes more than once.

  4. Maybe someone should tell the local kids that California *ALREADY HAS* all the core laws that this “movement” is reportedly demanding: 1. Sales of AR15 style assault weapons (and 30 round magazines) already banned; 2. We already have universal background checks with no “gun show loop hole”; 3. We have domestic violence restraining orders on guns. For bonus points: bump stocks have been illegal in CA since before these kids were born (1990), although some want to clarify that old law.
