Sheriff Investigating Shooting Death In Unincorporated Martinez; Concord Man Held

On Saturday at about 8:30 PM, Deputy Sheriffs were dispatched to a “medical police” call at a residence on the 1200 block of Santa Fe Avenue in unincorporated Martinez. The caller stated a person was accidentally shot.

Deputies arrived at the scene and discovered a woman identified as Pacheco resident Juanita Buechner, 58, suffering from a gunshot wound. Deputies rendered medical aid to her. The fire department arrived and later pronounced the victim deceased.

Detectives from the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff are investigating this shooting. A number of people have been interviewed. Detectives are still trying to determine the circumstances and motive behind the shooting.

At this time, 57-year-old Anthony Shepherd of Concord has been booked into the Martinez Detention Facility for murder and felon in possession of a firearm. He is being held in lieu of $2,050,000 bail.

The case is still actively being investigated.
